Google Meet

Room 5 had a Google Meet every morning during lockdown. As we were still in the process of getting 1:1 devices for my year 4 class, it was tricky to get everyone up and running. This day we managed to get 21 out of 28 students on-line together. We used the Meet to share our experiences, check in on the previous days learning and discuss the current learning tasks. Everyone got a chance to speak and we were able to share artwork (and new babies) over the Meet. There was some good contextual learning about lighting, sound, and framing that came up as we got better about meeting online.

Hi Kiri, awesome numbers for your Meet, well done.
Your reflections on the contextual learning about meeting online resonated. It was affirming to see our young people harnessing what they already know about interacting and maintaining positive and supportive online relationships. For the majority of our learners, teachers and whānau, distance learning via video conferencing was very new. However I was consistently seeing our young people confidently participating and contributing, problem solving and helping each other in Google Meet. My hypothesis is that their learning to be cybersmart, specifically sharing and connecting via their blogs, empowered them and to approach distance learning with confidence.
I have been thinking that there is room in our Cybersmart site to include video conferencing both in Smart Footprint and Smart Relationships.
Yours and the experiences of our teachers and learners will be valuable... will definitely share progress for feedback.

ngā mihi nui,
Fiona
